Nurses Seek Govt. Actions Over Rise Of Quack Medical Practitioners

ABEOKUTA: Nurses and Midwives in Ogun state have called the attention of the State government to the rise in the activities of quack medical practitioners in the state.

The nurses who expressed fear that the quack practitioners might further cause damage on people’s health in the society, identified areas such as Agbado, Mowe, Ibafo and Ifo as top spots for the quackery activities in the state.

The State Chairman of the Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives, Mrs. Roseline Solarin who raises the alarm while addressing Journalists at the sideline of a free medical services organised to mark the 100 days in office of Governor Dapo Abiodun in Iperu-remo, said the quackery in the nursing practice has greatly contributed to the death of unsuspecting patients being recorded on daily basis.

Solarin attributed the high presence of quack nurses in the state to the fight against the scourge by the Lagos State government which according to her resulted into the influx into the neighbouring states.

According to her, acute shortage of manpower in the health sector has made quacks comfortable in the state, to the extent that some of them are running apprenticeship training, while calling on state government to quickly address the issue.

The wife of the Governor, Mrs. Bamidele Abiodun while commending the Nurses in the State for organising the free medical services for the people of Iperu, assured them of better health sector by Abiodun’s administration.

Mrs. Abiodun represented by the wife of the Speaker of Ogun State, Mrs. Victoria Oluomo said the employment of Nurses as well as other medical and health personnel which has started with Olabisi Onabanjo Teaching Hospital, Sagamu, will be extended to other health facilities in the state.
