IBADAN – The Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi and the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Saa’rd Abubarkar, were among dignitaries that graced the occasion of the 5th Years Coronation Anniversary of the Ooni of Ile-Ife, Oba Enitan Ogunwusi.
The event which was held on Friday, November 27, 2020 at the Banquet Hall of Premier Hotel, Ibadan saw other eminent personalities at the epoch-making event. They include the Alake of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo, the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Saliu Adetunji, the Elegushi of Ikateland, Oba Saheed Ademola, and the Oniru of Iruland, Oba Gbolahan Lawal, among others.
The programme was put together by Oodua Decendant Union for the purpose of celebrating the Ooni of Ife, whose impact on Yorubaland and Nigeria in general can not be over emphasised.
The Guest Lecturer, Oloye Lekan Alabi, who is also the Ekeefa Olubadan of Ibadanland, noted that care must be taking in making sure the patriarch economy of Yoruba’s was saved.
The Ibadan High Chief however prayed for the Ooni to live longer than his predecessor, calling on the monarch not to relent on his efforts towards bringing Yorubas back into one folds.
In his remark, the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Saa’rd Abubarkar, said that Yoruba cultural heritage is very important and that was what differentiate Yoruba from other tribes in Nigeria.
His words, “We are all neighbours, so the issue of ethnicity should not divided us, we must understand ourselves, the more we move closer to each other, the more we understand ourselves.
“We must sensitized our political leaders not to divide us, but to always do the right things all the time because God will asked for our impart while alive.”
Abubarkar however urged Ooni to continue doing good irrespective of the criticism he might encountered while discharging his duty.
Meanwhile, the celebrant, Oba Ogunwusi revealed that the journey of his life was full of miracles and wonders, adding that some people never think the road to his kingship will work out.
Ooni thanks dignitaries for gracing the event, saying that their presence was highly commendable and appreciated.
