ILARO-YEWA: A Chieftain of All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun State and founder of the Non-Governmental Organisation – Building Opportunities For Tomorrow (BOT), Barrister Biyi Otegbeye, has described passing to the great beyond of Olu of Imasayi, Oba Gbadebo Adesola Oni, Aribio the 3rd, as a monumental loss to the town and Yewaland.
According to a release e-signed by Barr. Biyi Otegbe and made available on Saturday, July 11, 2020 to StarTrend Int’l magazine & www.startrendinternational.com by Biyi Otegbeye Media Office, Otegbeye said he was shocked at the loss of a “patriotic, highly esteemed and likeable royal father in Yewaland.
“Erin woo (the elephant falls). One of the best known symbols of history and custodian of tradition is gone.
“Oba Oni was young when he mounted the throne of his forefathers in 1990. He bubbled with life. He was sourced from the private sector to mount the throne. He was at that time the General Manager of Union Beverages Limited (Pepsi Cola) in Lagos. His charisma and determination were spectacular”.
Otegbeye opined that “Oba Oni’s tenure was replete with remarkable developments. He brought modernity to Imasayi without compromising the town’s culture and traditions. He protected the artefacts and moats of Imasayi from decadence.
“He was the General Secretary of Yewa Council of Traditional Rulers under the chairmanship of the current Olu of Ilaro & Paramount Ruler of Yewaland, Oba Kehinde Olugbenle.
“His position as General Secretary impacted greatly on the efficiency that the Council is noted for. Oba Oni was celebral, and averse to usurping powers, one of the reasons he succeeded as Acting Paramount Ruler of Yewaland before the enthronement of the current occupier of the exalted office.”
Otegbeye observed it would have been 30 years on September 15, 2020, that the late Kabiyesi was coronated if not for the fact that he is called into glory at this time.
The BOT founder however commiserated with the Yewa Council of Traditional Rulers and the Ogun State Council of Obas for losing one of their own, beseeching God to elongate the lives of all the royal fathers in the state.
He also sent his deepest condolences to the entire Aribio ruling house of Imasayi, the family members – wife and children of the departed, and the entire people of Imasayi. He prayed God to grant them the heart to bear the irreparable loss.
