ABEOKUTA: Ogun state government on Thursday, June 19, 2020 said plans are ongoing to adopt virtual Tourism in order to boost the economy of the state.
The Commission for Culture and Tourism in the state, Mr Taiwo Emmanuel in a Press Conference with executives of the Association of Travels and Tourism Writers of Nigeria disclosed plan by the state to package all its culture and Tourism products into a 3D to reach out to the world.
Emmanuel regretted the state’s failure in Tourism in the past despite the uniqueness of its rich cultural heritage, expressing optimism that the move by the current administration would not only promote culture and Tourism, but would as well improve the economy.
His words, “We are thinking on virtual reality whereby we can have all these packages into a 3D and we can now reach out. We want people to explore what they could not do physically so that at the end of the day we can scale above the challenges that’s why we deem it fit that the two of us collaborate to move the state forward.”
The Commissioner hinted that as soon as Governor Dapo Abiodun granted the approval, all the locally made products that showcase the culture and traditions of the state would be made available online for tourists.
Emmanuel stated further,”All our products will be online, our cultural team, our cultural tours, our troops too will be online. Very soon we are coming up with the virtual reality whereby your can just sit down and experience all that you need to without even travelling physically to enjoy or explore these things again and it is Covid-19 that is pushing us into this and it’s a blessing in disguise.
“It will surprise you that Ogun State will be doing the first of it’s kind once it’s approved, having our Adire market online. We will be selling all these things online.
“We are so rich when it comes to culture. Though in time past we have not been harnessing these things, we thank God new administration is supporting this, but as we do, we need to tell the whole world what we are doing. We need people that can reach out to the greater audience more than what we can do. People that can project it and tell the whole world what we have in Ogun State.”
President of the association, Omolola Itayemi explained that the Association’s purpose for working with the Ministry was to promote the economy of the state through Tourism.
