How Police Arrests Five Cultists For Terrorising Ogun Residents

ABEOKUTA – Operatives of Ogun Police Command said it had on Sunday, November 1, 2020 arrested five members of a dreaded cult group who allegedly unleashed terror on the people of Ifo in Ifo Local Government area of Ogun State.

The Command’s spokespersons, Oyeyemi Abimbola made this known in a statement issued in Abeokuta, the state capital.

According to the statement, the suspects include Afeez Olapade, 22, Idowu Adebayo,18, Oduwaye Seyi, 22, Fatai Olude, 22 and Alabi Segun, 22.

The police spokesman explained that they were apprehended following a distress call received by the Divisional Police Officer, Ifo Division that the cult group were on rampage around Ifo market.

According to the PPRO, they were attacking people with dangerous weapons and dispossessing innocent people of their valuables.

“Upon the distress call, the DPO, Ifo Division, Adeniyi Adekunle, quickly mobilised his men and moved to the scene.

“On getting there, they met a 25 -year-old man who was later identified simply as Sunday in the pool of his own blood as a result of several matchet injury on his body.

”The policemen chased and got the five suspects arrested within the area. The victim was taken to the General Hospital, Ifo where he was confirmed dead.

“Also injured is one Muhammed a trailer driver and one Olalekan Alade was also dispossessed of his phone by the hoodlums, while five other different phones snatched from different people were recovered from them,” he said.

He stated further that the Commissioner of Police, Edward Ajogun, had ordered the transfer of the suspects to State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for discreet investigation.

Oyeyemi said that the CP had also directed that other fleeing members of the gang must be hunted for and brought to book within the shortest possible time.

He warned that those who think that police had abandoned their duty as a result of recent protest to have a rethink as the Command was determined more than ever before to wage war against crime and criminality anywhere in the state.
