OBAFEMI-OWODE: Displeased by the deplorable condition of the Obafemi-Owode road, the Olu of Obafemi Owodeland, Oba Taofeek Owolabi has tasked governor Abiodun on the rehabilitation of the road without further delay.

The monarch who decried the deplorable state of the road equally expressed phobia that the condition might continue to record scores of accident if the government folds its arm.

Obafemi-Owode road in Obafemi-Owode Local Government is the major road connecting Abeokuta, the state capital and Sagamu.

The road is popular for its many portholes which at different times has been the major cause of road accidents, leading to loss of lives and goods in the area.

Oba Owolabi who stated this while fielding questions from Journalists at his 9th Coronation and Thanksgiving Service held at his palace on Wednesday, February 26, 2020 said that despite load of promises made by the immediate past administration to give the road a facelift, the narrative remains glued.

He however appealed to Gov. Abiodun to take the issue very seriously in order to put an end to incessant accidents and other ugly incidents on the road.

The monarch reminded the governor of his campaign promises, one of which he said was to rehabilitate bad roads across the state.
His words “The state governor during his campaign made a lot of promises that if he won the election, the road will be fixed. If the previous administration have been doing it bit by bit, there won’t be any portholes.”.

“If you’re coming from Abeokuta you will see many resources. We have so many land that if the government wants to do agriculture we have enough land to give them. Besides that, you will see that there are mineral resources in the area such like mining where the government is also generating their revenue. There are a lot for government to gain if this road is done. This road is begging and calling for repair”.

Oba Owolabi however urged the people of the communities to continue supporting the government of Governor Dapo Abiodun, pray for him and his team, so that the people of the state will enjoy the benefit of democracy.
