ABEOKUTA: Wife of the Ogun State Governor, Mrs. Bamidele Abiodun through a group in the state, Ogun Youth Advocate for Unemployment (OGYA) has distributed relief materials to youths in the state to cope with continued lockdown caused by the novel Covid-19 pandemic.
Drawn from the 20 local governments of the state, the youths on Monday, May 11, 2020 were presented with packs of noodle, sizable bag of beans and rice, beverages, yam powder, groundnut chips, toothpaste, cassava powder, among others, courtesy of Ogun First Lady.
Speaking to Journalists during the distribution held at the MKO Abiola Stadium, Abeokuta, the state capital, the President of the Group, Comrade Alamu Oluseyi regretted the havoc that the COVID-19 pandemic has wrecked on the vulnerable groups in the country, pledging to also extend the gesture to other groups in the state.
Alamu stressed the group’s zero tolerance for hunger and starvation among youths in the state, was responsible for the sharing of the relief materials.
The President made a thumbs-up to the First Lady for the concern she expressed through the kind gesture.
He said, “We are here to appreciate the First Lady for the distribution of palliatives to youths in the state through Ogun Youth Advocate. We have our members across the 20 local government of the state. We appreciate her for the relief packages.”
The spokesperson of the Group, Comrade Odeyinka Temitayo argued that the vulnerable in the society need relief materials to cope in the critical situation to keep them alive, also the youth do.
His words, “This is courtesy of Her Excellency Mrs. Bamidele Abiodun; she gave us this relief materials to give to youths in the state, especially those at the grassroots to alleviate the effects of the pandemic. Youths need all these food materials at this critical period as COVID-19 is affecting the whole world.
“The vulnerable in the society need relief materials to cope in this situation to keep them alive so we really want to appreciate her for this”.
Comrade Odeyinka stated further, “We want Ogun state and Nigeria in general to know that we have sensible youths in Ogun state that can come to the drawing board and put up some things that can be replicated in the state government. We have over 200 members in each local government, though they all cannot be here, but they are duly represented.”
The beneficiaries however appreciated the First Lady, saying, “This is what we have been anticipating. We greatly thank the First Lady in Ogun State for her heart of Gold to the youths in Ogun State. We also appreciate OGYA for this wonderful laudable effort”.
