The Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun has ordered the immediate reinstatement of former Chairman of the Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT), Comrade Oludare Ilekoya and a teacher, Mr Majekodunmi Olusanjo who were compulsorily retired under the past administration.

Abiodun announced the reinstatement during a special ceremony organised by NUT and Academic Staff Union of Secondary Schools (ASSUS) to mark this year’s World Teachers’ Day.

The duo of Majekodunmi and Ilekoya were sacked by the former Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun over an alleged offenssive 2015 English Language examination question and misconduct and involvement in political rally held under disguise of 2016 World Teacher’s Day Celebration on October 5, 2016, respectively.

The well attended ceremony was organised on Saturday, September 5, 2019 at the MKO Abiola Stadium, Abeokuta, the State capital with the theme: “Young Teachers: The Future of The Profession”.

His words: “I approve the immediate reinstatement of Messrs. Olusanjo Majekodunmi and Oludare Ilekoya back to service from their compulsory retirement over the 2015 English Language examination question and 2017 World Teachers’ Day celebration, respectively”.

This gesture, he explained was not only to encourage the teachers, stressing, “It is dictated by natural justice, and it is the right thing to do.”

Abiodun equally urged all public servants to observe professional ethos and avoid any conduct that is not in tandem with Public Service rules at all times.

”It is my hope that this gesture will be reciprocated with increased commitment to duty and that appropriate lessons have been learnt.

”Let me say that our Administration recognizes your noble role in nation building. Therefore, I wish to reiterate the commitment of our Administration towards the welfare of our teachers within the available resources.

”We will not only continue to incorporate our teachers as critical stakeholders in nation building, but also to continue to ensure that teachers have the necessary ambience and support of our Administration for an efficient services delivery to the benefit of our children and the glory of our dear State.

”I enjoin you to reciprocate this kind gesture by continuing to be up and doing, innovative and painstaking in the honourable discharge of your duties. On our own part, as an Administration, we can assure you of our continued prompt attention to issues bordering on your welfare and constant interventions to take the Education Sector to a greater height”

Meanwhile, the chairman of ASUSS, Comrade Akeem Lasisi noted that the administration of Dapo Abiodun had helped in rescuing Education sector in Ogun State out of coma.

”We want to thank Abiodun for his intervention in educational sector in Ogun. Since he assumed office we have seen a lot of changes, the scraping of N3,700 levy fee can not been overlooked. He pays our monthly salaries before the end of the month unlike the past administration.”
