FRSC Regrets 343 Deaths In Ogun, Pledges To Deploy 1,700 Special Marshal In Highway

ABEOKUTA: Not less than 343 lives have been lost in 665 road traffic crashes between January and November in Ogun State, according to the Federal Road Safety Corps, the State Command.

The Corps lamented that the number of people killed during the third quarter of 2019 was 82 percent huger than 2018 which was 51 percent.

Speaking at the Corps’ 2019 Fourth Quarter Sectoral Retreat on Thursday, November 28, 2019, the state Commander, Mr. Clement Oladele who regretted the road barbarity attributed the regrettable occurrences to drivers violation of traffic rules.

To reduce the regular challenges to the barest minimum, Oladele stressed that the Corps had heightened its enforcement of traffic laws by increasing the arrest of critical of fences, especially those associated with use of phone while driving, wrongful corner taking, overloading among others.

Oladele who spoke on the theme: “Improved Service Delivery In FRSC: Tool For Corporate Performance” stressed the Command readiness to deploy 1,700 Regular and Spacial Marshal,  35 patrol vehicles, four life support ambulances, five patrol bikes and a high way duty truck to support the wember month special patrol operation.

The Commander also stressed that the efforts would be complimented with Special Intervention Patrol that the Corps would embark on in critical corridors where road traffic crashes are prevalent.

His words, “FRSC Ogun State  Command, as customary is patrolling all the stretch of the corridors in the state especially the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway which of recent has witnessed frequent gridlock due to the construction activities ongoing on the corridor.”

He announced that the Sector Command and its Component Units are currently organising series of Mobile Court across the state to arrest and prosecute erring motorists.

The mobile court which would continue through out the festive period, Oladele said would serve as deterrence to other recalcitrant offenders.

“The Command is equally collaborating with the Federal Ministry of Works and Housing to and construct companies handling the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway and in response to our reports of road crashes at traffic diversion areas along construction zones”, he said.

Oladele added, “An agreement has been reached to remove all the traffic diversion along the Lagoso-Ibadan Expressway by December 15″.
