Poor Leadership, Thorn In Nigeria’s Flesh – PFN

ABEOKUTA: The myriad of challenges militating against the development of the country is poor leadership, the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN), Ogun state chapter has said.

According to the Chairman of the Fellowship, Apostle David Otaro, when the nation gets it right in leadership, the “very many” challenges would be drastically subsided.

Otaro who spoke to Journalists at the sideline of a Leadership Capacity Building Conference organized at the weekend for members of PFN in Abeokuta, the state capital, lamented that poor leadership had crippled the country, insisting that citizens must wake up to proffer solution without alacrity.

The rationale behind the leadership programme, he said, was to address the issue of poor leadership and to get it right from the church, explaining that if leadership is gotten right in the church, it would extend to the entire nation.

The programme with the theme: “Overflowing Grace”, was witnessed by over 1,000 Christian faithful who came from different Pentecostal churches to be trained on quality leadership.

Pastor Otaro stressed; “Leadership begins in all strata of human endeavours, so we are trying to get it right even from the church because the church has a lot of influence on the people, because we preach to people and whatever we say has a lot on them. Those who will teach others should be trained first.”

Otaro further expressed that; “Everything rises and falls with leadership, the first, second and third problems of Nigeria are leadership. When we get it right with leadership, we will get it right in everything.”

When asked whether there is solution to the ugly situation in the country, Otaro stated; “The solution to leadership problem is to vote for the right person, credible people because nobody emerge without the followers. Let’s look for those that have been tested in their family and community before they are showcased to the nation”.

The Ogun state Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun who spoke earlier lauded PFN’s effort in combating the poor narrative in its bid.

Represented by his Deputy, Chief (Mrs.) Noimot Salako-Oyedele expressed pleasure in the conference, saying, “the PFN has been wonderful in this state, they have ensured religious harmony”.

His words; “This state has no religious stress at all and this is why we are here to support what they are doing. The idea of having a leadership conference is such a wonderful idea because we have to train and retrain ourselves and any training you get in the Church, Mosque or at home will complement each other. When there is better leader in the family, it will lead to better leader in the society”.
