ABEOKUTA: The Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun has disclosed why he ordered the arrest of the staff of Tai Solarin College of Education (TASCE) Omu-Ijebu, Ogun state.
The Governor alleged that the staff were arrested because they disrupted the matriculation ceremony in the institution under the guise of protesting non-payment of their salaries and arrears.
Abiodun made the disclosure during a Praise/Worship programme organised on Tuesday, September 17, 2019, in Abeokuta, Ogun State to celebrate his victory at the tribunal.
Recalled, the TASCE staff have since the past administration of erstwhile Governor Amosun, been protesting non-payment of their over 48 months salaries, deductions among others, but government allegedly turned deaf hears to their clamour.
According to the Governor, when he received information that the TASCE staff invaded and caused commotion at the matriculation venue, he promptly ordered their arrest, saying his government would not tolerate any illegality
The Governor also stressed that before the information reached him, the matriculating students had taken justice into their hands by beating the staff mercilessly before the arrival of security personnel.
He revealed that there was also a plot by the staff to kidnap their Provost, whom they claim is not qualified to serve as their Provost.
The staff under the umbrella of TASCE Staff Association (TSA) had on Monday, September 16, 2019, held a Press conference at the NUJ Secretariat in Abeokuta, alleging that Governor Dapo Abiodun accused them of stealing and robbery, adding that he trampled on their fundamental human rights by subsequently ordering their arrest.
They mentioned a member of Dapo Abiodun Education Transistion Committee, Mr Lamide Lawal, alleging that he invited their Representative under the guise of Aborisade Daniel to the Governor’s office in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, a visit that led to his (Aborisade’s) arrest at the Governor’s office.
But the Governor, during the well-attended ceremony, disclosed that the staff had been causing serious unrest, leading to distortion of learning by the students.
The Thanksgiving and Praise ceremony witnessed eminent personalities in the State. They include the Ogun Speaker, Rt Hon. Kunle Oluomo, former Speakers, Rt. Hon. Suraj Adekunbi and Rt. Hon. Titi Oseni,
Others are the former Deputy Governors, Gbenga Kaka, Segun Adesegun, Royal fathers, the Alake of Egbaland, Oba Aremu Gbadebo, Olu of Ilaro & Paramount of Yewaland, Oba Kehinde Olugbenle, among a host of others.
