ABEOKUTA: The Ogun State Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM) in partnership with Goggle and Online Hub Educational Services has trained 500 teachers in Ogun Central to aid their teaching skills in classrooms.
The Permanent Secretary, TESCOM, Mrs. Mojisola Dosunmu made this known while declaring open a day training for Computer Science Educators and Teachers across the Secondary Schools in the State.
Held at Lisabi Grammar School in Abeokuta, the State capital, the theme of the programme was, “TeachCS4Dev” .
She said the programme which was in line with the vision of the present administration led by Prince Dapo Abiodun at revamping the educational sector of the state would have 1,500 teachers trained across the state as well as aid teachers, particularly the computer science educator in the classrooms the necessary skills and methodology at imparting knowledge to the students through Online Hub Educational Services.
Dosunmu urged the participants to pay wrapped attention to all the guest lecturers, disclosing that letters to newly promoted teachers for year 2016 and 2017 across the state would be ready as soon as all necessary official step had been taken.
On his part, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, Science and Technology (MOES&T), Mr Olu-Ola Aikulola who was represented by Mr. Tabiti Oluwole, said the training programme was aimed at equipping and exposing Science Technology, Engineering and Mathematics Teachers (STEM), on continuous professional development in quality teaching and learning practices, adding that the state government was committed to the training and retraining of its workforce, in line with the philosophy of the present administration led by Prince Dapo Abiodun, to ensure quality teaching and learning service delivery.
Speaking at the event, the Creative Director, Online Hub Educational Services, Mr. Ishola Adebayo, said Goggle and Online Hub Educational Services aimed at development in the delivery of computer science educator and teachers in the three senatorial district for professional development in computer science curriculum across the secondary schools in the state.
He said the problem of teaching computer science effectively in school was as a result of poor foundation, instructional materials and lack of professional development in the delivery of computer science curriculum, adding that was the reason why TeachCS4Dev focused on classroom delivery with emphasis on bridging the practical and computational needs for computer science educators to cover the core areas, such as Robotic, Coding and Designs, Networks and Internent, Data Processing and Analysis.
“We believe core areas not only improves the knowledge of the educators, but also equips them with highly developed CS skills and learned knowledge to be utilized in solving problem as we will engage the CS educator with delivery process that will fosters interactive learning and conduct meaningful evaluations that offers constructive feedbacks,” Ishola said.
In their submission, the Chairman, All Nigeria Confederation of Principals of Secondary Schools (ANCOPSS), Dr. Ayodele Womiloju and Chairman, Academic Staff of Secondary Schools of Nigerian (ASUSS) Ogun State Chapter, Comrade Akeem Lasisi, appreciated the governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun for its laudable vision to the educational sector, particularly with the promised of taking the sector to its rightful position among other state, saying that teachers would always reciprocate the governor’s gesture for the recent promotion approval by delivering good and qualitative teaching to the students for the state to move from the present 19th position to the 1st in the education sector in Nigeria.
