Worried about the allegation by the Awori people of Ogun State that the Alake of Abeokuta &Paramount Ruler of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Gbadebo was plotting to impose traditional rulers on the people of the land, the Alake has urged the Olota of Ota, Oba Abdulkabir Adeyemi Obalanlege to desist from taking actions that would disturb the peace of the state.
Oba Gbadebo who was represented by Chief Layi Labode, the Baarohin of Egbaland gave this note of warning on Friday May 31, 2019 during a Press Conference held at Ake Palace, Abeokuta, saying, “All without exception, the courts’ decision, on all issues brought against Alake’s position in all Egba physical and geographical areas, not only re-confirmed the legal and traditional jurisdiction of Egbaland.”
He added, “The outcomes of these cases have settled for all time, and beyond all reasonable doubts, the legal Authority of the Alake of Egbaland to administer traditional oversight in all the areas Chief Bashorun mentioned in his superfluity.”
The Alake insisted that the allegation by the Aworis that he had “installed, imposed or induced Kings, Baales (Village Heads) or Chiefs was totally false.”
He insisted that the Awori’s misinformed the public when they said the towns he (Alake) installed Kings and Chiefs do not fall within his domain.
Alake said it was regrettable that Oba Obalanlege and his chiefs had resorted to self-help.
His words, “The Alake and Egba Traditional Council, as well as all peace loving people of Ogun State are worried that the Olota and his Chiefs have been involving themselves in self-help by engaging in violent visits to Egba towns and villages within Gbalefa: Iju, Atan, Ijoko, Itori, Sango and others.”
“They (Aworis) have engaged professional land grabbers and hoodlums to illegally grab, sell and forcibly drive landowners, almost causing a kind of internally inflicted displaced persons scenario”.
”We also seriously call on the Ogun State Commissioner of Police to intervene in the excesses and one-sided activities of the police’s instigated harassments of the Egba indigene in the area.”
“Finally, the Alake and Paramount Ruler of Egbaland has always followed due process in the installation of any Baale or Traditional ruler. The case in Ota area will not be and is not exception”.
Recalls there has been dispute between the Alake and Oba Obalanlege who reigns over the Aworis and claimed constitutional authority to install Kings and Chiefs in certain towns in his domain.
The towns in question, according to Oba Obalanlege include Sango, Atan, Ijoko, Abule-Ore, Adekoyeni and also the Gbalefa Peninsula.
The position of the Awori chiefs was that only the Olota of Otaland, Oba Abdulkabir Obalanlege has the right to install traditional rulers in the land.
Chiefs from Aworiland, backed by the Olota recently addressed a Press conference during which they alleged among other things, through their spokesman, Chief Olanrewaju Bashorun, that the Alake of Egbaland had illegally installed Kings and Chiefs in towns where the Olota of Ota, Abdulkabir Obalanlege reigns,
