IJEBU ODE, OGUN STATE, NIGERIA – President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is set to lead a delegation from the Federal Government and other distinguished Nigerians to commemorate the 64th Coronation Anniversary and 90th Birthday of the Paramount Ruler and Awujale of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona, Ogbagba II.
Dr. Adekunle Hassan, Chairman of the Awujale’s 64th Coronation and 90th Birthday Anniversary, announced these details at a press conference held at the Awujale’s Palace in Ijebu Ode.
As part of the celebrations, a book titled “Reinventing Governance in Nigeria” will be presented.
The event is scheduled for May 10, 2024, at Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU), Ago Iwoye.
During the ceremony, President Tinubu will also inaugurate the iconic multi-billion naira School of Governance at the university, dedicated to postgraduate studies and research in good governance.
Born on May 10, 1934, Oba Adetona ascended the throne on April 2, 1960, following official communication from the Western Region’s Ministry of Local Government.
Dr. Hassan disclosed that a documentary on Oba Adetona will also be showcased at OOU.
Hassan praised Oba Adetona as a distinguished Nigerian who has significantly contributed to the unity, progress, and development of Ijebuland, Ogun State, and Nigeria as a whole.
He highlighted the monarch’s commitment to religious harmony, exemplified by the annual Ojude Oba cultural festival where people of all religious backgrounds actively participate.
Hassan emphasized Oba Adetona’s representation of the rich ancestral heritage of the Ijebu people and announced various events planned for the celebrations.
These include Jum’at and Thanksgiving services on May 3, the book presentation and inauguration of the School of Governance on May 10, and a civic reception on May 11 at the Dipo Dina International Stadium in Ijebu Ode.
