ILARO-YEWA – Ogun State Commissioner for Budget and Planning, Hon. Olaolu Olabimtan, has highlighted reasons the people of Ogun State should allow Gov. Dapo Abiodun-led administration to get second term in office.
Olabimtan who was speaking with journalists on Saturday, August 27, 2023, at the presentation of Awards of Excellece to distinguished members of Recreation Club, Ilaro and the induction of new members into the club held on Saturday, August 27, 2022 at the Club’s house, Ilaro-Yewa used opportunity of the event to drum support for his boss, Governor Dapo Abiodun’s 2n term bid.
His words, “I want to use this opportunity to inform the people of Ogun State that this is the first time we have gotten even distribution of infrastructures across the state.
“In a couth manner, we said only what we are able to do and we are progressing o them. What His Excellency promised was that we will leave Ogun State better than we met it.
“We have never ever said we will do everything. But If given a second term, I am assuring you Ogun State will be better for it in view of quantum of infrastructure that will be done”.
The Accountant cum Legal luminary outlined further on the various projects completed by Governor Abiodun.
“Specifically about infrastructural projects, let me state that this government has done rehabilitation and construction of more tarred roads than any of the past governors that have ever rules this state. And the facts are there for anyone to check.
“Another landmark I will like to tell you is that this government has done an exceptional even distribution of infrastructure of projects, statewide. When I say even spread, I mean in the three senatorial districts.
“You and I know that infrastructural deficit in this country is huge, and that’s a general problem. So, instead of concentrating in one area, what this government is doing is to try our best to be fair and equitable in placing projects in each of the three districts; Ogun East, Ogun Central, and Ogun West.
“And I dare say that there is no local government that has not gotten one or two road projects”.
Besides, while debunking allegation that the Abiodun-led government has failed the people of Ogun West, the Yewa-born Commissioner gave examples of specific projects sited in the Yewa axis of the state.
“It will interest you to know that several schools have been rehabilitated across Yewaland. It will interest you also to know that the State Hospital in Ilaro was renovated right at the beginning of this administration,
“Let me shock you, you can check this out, in the health sector, the popular talk now is that if FMC can’t take your patient, take him or her to Ilaro State Hospital. That tells you something!
“In Yewaland, for eight years, we have been neglected, but Governor Dapo Abiodun promised us that we will not regret of supporting him, and we did not regret. And we are going to give him our vote again comes 2023.
“Take for instance, Owode–Ilaro road. That road has been abandoned. There was even an administration that decided to bring down houses here and yet he didn’t do that road. And you know that the road is a state link, not between Ilaro-Owode alone, but between Yewa South and Ipokia LGA, between Ilaro and Republic of Benin. It’s such a strategic road.
“Let me tell you something. When the senior people in the Army visited the Governor, you will be surprised that what they asked for was Ilaro-Owode road. When the senior people in Customs visited the Governor, what they wanted was Ilaro-Owode road. That is to tell you the significant of that road.”
Telling him that a number of good people of Ogun West who had taken offence on why it takes the government so long to begin construction of the ilato-Oeode road, Hon. Olabimtan said, “there was plans, and the policy is that the roads should be taken in the order of priority.
“You see, the infrastructural deficit that we had in this state, believe me, if we take the entire budget and invest it on road project only, we can’t do all the roads.
“So, the wise thing to do is to prioritise. And you pick them in order of importance. Now, let me tell you, we met an indigenous contractor on the road who was employed by the former governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun. And, as a responsible administrator, His Excellency decided to allow him carry on with the construction.
“Also, for individual prosperity, we were reluctant to revoke the contract until when it was apparent that he was going to make us not to keep our promises with the people, we have to jettison him. I can assure you as Mr. Governor has promised, before the end of this year, that road will be commissioned”.
Honorable Commissioner of Budget and Planning urged members of the Recreation Club, Ilaro, especially the newly inductees to keep the flag flying.
“This is the Club to be in Yewaland and Ilaro.
“I am imploring the newly inductees to join us in the good work and keep the flag flying.
“You know, this is a fresh generation, when this Club started, I was a primary school young boy. My father was one of the first set of members in this club. Today, I am over fifty, and a Recreator myself. We should just make sure we keep the flag flying.
“As the new inductees have joined us, we expect to see change for the better, they should come up with fresh ideas, tell
us where we are going wrong, tell us how to do it better, and together we shall attain greater height”.
