ABEOKUTA – Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun has assured of his commitment to run a comprehensive health insurance scheme that would serve as model for other States in the country.
According to a release e-signed and made available to StarTrend Int’l & online – www.startrendinternational.com by Dolapo Jinaid, Press Officer, Ogun State Health Insurance Agency, the Governor said this at the Year 2021-2023 Medium Term Expenditure Framework/ 2021 Budget Proposal at Obas’ Complex, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, noting that provision of efficient health care is paramount to achieving the administration’s policies and programme on health.
He said the present administration was passionate about the health needs of the people and a lot has been done nevertheless, more are still going to be done in the sector.
His words, “We will not joke with the issues concerning the good health of our people and it is one of our administration’s priorities to flag-off and run a sustainable Health Insurance Scheme in a very unique style that will serve as model for the other 35 States of the federation.
“It is one thing to start health insurance and it is another thing to sustain the scheme, if not properly planned, the sustainability of the scheme may not be possible. This is Ogun State, we are here to add values and provide quality health care services to our people, relevant stakeholders should be carried along by the agency in charge”.
Speaking earlier at the event, the State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Tomi Coker said necessary arrangement had been put in place, including meeting with the union leaders and line agencies, while few things left behind is within the executive power.
While appealing to the Governor to look into the requests, Coker said the project would save life of millions of people living in the State, especially those from the formal sector .
Also speaking, the Executive Secretary of Ogun State Health Insurance Agency, Dr. Afolabi Dosunmu, commended effort of the Governor for being proactive on issues concerning the Health sector, adding that the State is one of the few in the country lagging behind on the implementation of the Basic Health Care Provision Fund Scheme.
