IBADAN – Youths in tertiary institutions in Oyo state under the agies of the Oyo State Leading Patriot, on Tuesday, November 3 2020, visited some selected markets where their goods were looted during recent #Endsars protest in the state.
Asiwaju Nurudeen Akinade, the founder, of the group who led over 500 youths from all the tertiary institutions across the state, urged residents to embrace dialogue, rather than destoying and looting people’s goods.
Some of the markets visited by the group are; Bodija, Molote, Orita-Merin, Agbeni, Ogupa and Sango, Aleshinloye, Ojoo markets.
While addressing people at the markets, Akinade appealed to market men and women across the state to ensure a peaceful coexistence between the residents of the state, regardless of their tribe and religion.
His words; “We intend to start a programme, tagged – #EndAllAttack” so that all of us can become peace ambassador. We are all affected by the #EndSARS protesters, but there is need for us to be in peace.
“We have been going round major markets in Ibadan, the hotspot of the protest to preach peace. We have been talking to affected people in the nooks and cranies of Ibadan and the responses are encouraging,” SK made stated.
Reacting to their peace moves, the Iyaloja of Ibadanland, Chief Iswat Oyinlola Ameringun, said the #EndSARS protest was peaceful at the initial stage, but was later hijacked by suspected hoodlums in the markets.
She however applauded Akinade and his team in ensuring peace in Ibadanland, urging the Oyo State government to assist the affected traders.
Speaking on behalf of the affected traders, Mrs. Kemi Ogundiran told our correspondent that her close friend was almost killed and her goods were looted.
Ameringun said further; “A lot of things happened during the protest which was pathetic and we never prayed for it again. My close friend was almost killed. Her goods were looted. I want government to help them in their businesses.”
