The state governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun while addressing journalists in Abeokuta, the state capital on Monday, October 26, 2020 stated that 250 youths participants would be drawn from each Local government of the state.
Abiodun said the empowerment programme was more imperative at this time when youths across the nation are clamouring for good governance and responsive government.
He assured that the programme would provide skills and capacity building as well as stipends, adding that the participants would be attached to small and medium scale enterprises and government agencies.
His words: “In the area of youth development especially, we are determined to unleash the creative energies of our vibrant, tireless and motivated youths, towards building a more vibrant economy. This is why we have come up with various economic programmes that they can tap into.
“In this regard, we will be launching this week, another youth empowerment programme targeting 5,000 youths with 250 in each from our 20 local government areas. The programme will provide skills and capacity building as well as stipends whilst the participants are attached to small and medium scale enterprises and government agencies.”
Abiodun says the youths in the State had earned national accolades for the largely peaceful manner with which they conducted themselves while the protest lasted.
“The youths in Ogun State have earned national accolades for the largely peaceful manner with which they conducted themselves while the protest lasted, despite infiltration of the initial protest by hoodlums who we have overwhelming evidence came from outside the state,” the governor noted.
He added that despite infiltration of the initial protest by hoodlums, the state has overwhelming evidence that came from outside the state that the youths were well behaved.
Governor Abiodun however commended the original conveners of the #EndSARS movement for listening to government’s appeal to suspend the protest, adding that the peaceful protest called his attention to the need of the people.
