ILARO-YEWA – The Pastor in charge of the First Baptist Church, Ilu-Ata, Ilaro-Yewa, Ogun State, the Reverend Solomon Olagunade has condemned the recent electricity and petrol pump price increase by the Federal Government, saying that such action was inhuman and ungodly.
Rev. Olagunade decried the government’s action at the burial service for the late Rear Admiral Adebimpe Adegboyega Adewunmi (Rtd) held at the church, saying that increase in Value Added Tax (VAT), Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) pump price and Electricity bills at this period would do no good to the citizens of Nigeria who were still battling with the prevailing economic hardship in the country as a result of Covid-19 pandemic.
The Cleric who also highlighted herdsmen attack, terrorism and maladministration amongst others as major challenges bedeviling the country offered prayers that God should forgive the government of Nigeria.
His words, “I pray that God will forgive the government of Nigeria. There is serious hunger in the land, no good roads, no potable water, and still the government increased VAT, increased the price of electricity supply and petrol. What is our offence?
“I implore all our leaders, all of you in position of authority in this country to repent. Don’t allow that position or wealth to lead those who doesn’t care about the masses to hellfire”.
Reading from the Holy scripture Matthew, 24 verses 36 to 44, the Rev. Olagunade who maintains that nobody knows when death would come, charged people at the burial service to repent from sins and endeavor to do the will of Almighty God at all times. The spiritual leader pointed out that many people had forgotten God because of what they were enjoying on earth.
He urged children of the deceased to emulate the good virtues of their late father who dedicated his lifetime to God and development of humanity, advising them to be more closer to Christ who according to him remains their only living Father.
