Chief Of Naval Staff Describes Late Admiral Adewunmi As A Selfless, Lover Of Humanity

ILARO-YEWA – The Chief of Naval Staff, Ibok Ekwe Ibas has described late Rear Admiral Adegboyega Adebimpe Adewunmi NN/0112 (Rtd) as an asset not only to his family, but also to the Nigerian Navy and the Nation.

In a condolence message delivered at the burial service through the Flag Officer Commanding Western Naval Command and leader of the military delegation to the burial service, Rear Admiral D.O. Daji, the Chief of Naval Staff described the deceased as a selfless and lover of humanity.

The statement reads, “It is with a heavy heart and a deep sense of sympathy that I write to condole you on the demise of your father, Rear Admiral Adegboyega Adebimpe Adewunmi NN/0112 (Rtd) whose untimely death occurred on 8th August, 2020.

“Your late father was an asset not only to his family, but also to the Nigerian Navy and indeed the entire Nation. He was a dependable Comrade at Arms and a fine Officer/Administrator who had unwavering love for his country and duty.

“The late Rear Admiral Adebimpe Adewunmi was zealous, selfless and a lover of humanity. He was known to take all assigned duties with uncommon dedication and seriousness. Indeed, he was a patriot and would be missed”.

In a short interview with StarTrend Int’l crew, Rear Admiral Olugbemiga Dadi implored the family and officers of Nigerian Navy to emulate the selfless charisma dedication to duty and humane nature of the deceased.
Rear Admiral Daji however prayed for the eternal repose of the soul of late Rear Admiral Adewunmi and the family he left behind.

The late Rear Admiral Adewunmi who was born on August 8, 1937 and died on August 8, 2020, in the course of his service to the Nation, held several appointment during which he made impact on the service as Deputy

Weapon Electrical Engineering Officer onboard NNS Nigeria between 1969 and 1970; Base Logistics Officer – NNS BEECROFT between July, 1970 and May, 1971; Weapon Electrical Engineering Officer – NNS between 1972 and 1976.

The late Rear Admiral was also Staff Officer (logistics) WNC between 1976 and 1977; Delegate Construction of MK9 Corvette, UK between 1977 and 1978; Director Engineering NHQ between 1979 and 1981; Commander Technical Officer NCE between 1982 and 1985; and OLC Energy Contract, NAVDOCK between 1985 and 1987.

The late senior officer served the Nigerian Navy and the Nation for about 23 years of post commission before his retirement in December, 1992.

Rear Admiral Adebimpe Adewunmi was survived by wives, many children, grandchildren and relatives.
