ABEOKUTA – Nigerian women have been advised to always pay greater attention to their health and wellbeing to enable them to raise healthy children and a better society.
The advice was given by resource persons on Thursday, August 13, 2020 at a one day seminar on “Effective Breastfeeding and Family Planning”, organised by the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Ogun State Chapter in collaboration with the Police Officers Wives Associatio (POWA), Ogun State Chapter.

The programme took place at the Headquarters of Nigeria Police, Eleweran, Abeokuta, Ogun State.
Delivering the lecture on the theme: “Rffective Breastfeeding and Family Planning”, resource persons, Dr Ayotunde Erinoso and Dr Jumoke Adekogba emphasized the need for exclusively breastfeeding as it remains the only enriched food for children at early stage which would promote bond between the mothers and their children.
Speaking on the advantages of exclusive breastfeeding, Dr Erinoso said women that exclusively breastfed their children would be free from periodic sickness while it will also encourage a crime-free society.
Dr Jumoke Adekogba on her own said child-spacing reduces the rate of maternal mortality of 15 women out of 50 who died while giving birth and frees babies from infection. D
Earlier,The chairperson, NAWOJ, Mrs Modupeola Sobukola said the essence of the gathering was to promote safe motherhood.
In a remark, the POWA chairperson, Mrs Millicent Ajogun urged women to pay attention to child-spacing and exclusive breastfeeding as it beneficial to the larger society.
Also speaking, the State Commissioner of Police, CP Edward Ajogun commended Ogun NAWOJ and POWA for the partnership with a promise that Ogun Command of the Nigeria Police would continue to give support and encouragement to women in the force.
