Sustainable Development: Technical Colleges To Rescue – Says Ogun Govt

ABEOKUTA: The Special Adviser to the Ogun State Governor on Technical Education, Prof. Joseph Odemuyiwa, has said that Technical and Vocational education is to provide knowledge and skills for employment, using formal and informal learning methods, which are crucial for social equity, inclusion and sustainable development.

Prof. Odemuyiwa, who stated this during a meeting with Principals of Government Science and Technical Colleges across the State, held at Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, charged them to be good managers of facilities at their disposal and be committed to imparting standard training to their students.

He noted that the State was committed to self-sufficiency in Agriculture and production of raw materials for homes, industries and food security, calling on the Principals to use the viable trades in their colleges to alleviate poverty, improve socio-economic growth of the State, thereby boosting the Internally Generated Revenues, for the sustainability of the Colleges, as entrenched in the National Policy on Education.

Speaking, the Director, Technical and Vocational Education and Training, Mrs. Oluwatosin Oloko, urged the Principals to rise up to the development of technical education in the State, encouraging them to enlighten their communities on the importance of learning valuable trades, with the aim of improving the society.

In his response, one of the Principals, Government Science and Technical College, Idi-Aba, Abeokuta, Mr. Joseph Oyepo, thanked Government for being passionate in advancing the cause of Technical and Vocational Education in the State, promising they would transfer skills and knowledge to the students.
