14 DECADES OF JOURNALISM IN NIGERIA

By Senior Chief ‘Lekan Alabi

IBADAN – 24 years ago, the Ogun State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) celebrated the 14th decade (140 years) of the start of practice of the noble profession of Journalism in Nigeria.

Journalism practice started in Nigeria from Abeokuta.

I was kindly invited by the Ogun State NUJ as a resource person to the celebration (a Symposium, actually) in Abeokuta, to talk on the given topic: “JOURNALISTS AND NATIONAL DEVELOPMENT”, at the Symposium held at the “ILE IWE IROHIN”, headquarters of the Ogun State Council of the NUJ, Oke Ilewo, Abeokuta, Ogun State.

*Senior Chief ‘Lekan Alabi is the Maye of Olubadan of Ibadanland.

Above is the first page of my paper delivered at the Symposium, 24 years ago, on December 1,1998.
