LAGOS, NIGERIA – The Yaba College of Technology (YABATECH), Lagos, has honoured the Senator representing Ogun West at the National Assembly, Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola (Yayi), with the prestigious Fellow of the Yaba College of Technology (FYCT) award during its 37th Convocation Ceremony held on Saturday, November 22, 2025.

This recognition comes a few years after a similar honour was bestowed on the senator by the Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro, where he was awarded the Fellow of the Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro (FFPI).

Presenting the award on behalf of the institution, the Rector of YABATECH, Dr. (Engr.) Ibraheem Adedotun Abdul, noted that the honour was conferred in appreciation of Senator Adeola’s “contribution to the growth of education and the nation.”

He highlighted the senator’s unwavering support for the institution’s longstanding aspiration to attain university status.

Receiving the award through his representative, Hon. Bolaji Oyeleye, Senator Adeola Yayi – who was unavoidably absent – expressed deep gratitude to the institution, reiterating his firm belief in quality education as a foundation for national development.

He reaffirmed his commitment to promoting educational growth at all levels.

“I am very happy at this award from the renowned and famous YabaTech. As a senator, I have consistently pushed for the upgrade of YABATECH into a University of Technology, given its immense capacity and long history of excellence in technology education”, he stated.

Senator Adeola Yayi recalled sponsoring the bill for the institution’s upgrade during the 8th Senate (2015-2019), where it passed the first and second readings before the session ended. The bill was reintroduced in the 9th Senate (2019-2023), passed by the Senate, but not concurred by the House of Representatives.

Now Chairman of the 10th Senate Committee on Appropriations, Senator Adeola commended the Senate Leader, Senator Opeyemi Bamidele, for reintroducing the bill, which has now been passed and assented to.

He emphasized that the upgrade would significantly boost technological education and human resource development for Nigeria’s industrial sector.

Expressing his appreciation, Senator Adeola Yayi said, “I want to commend the Rector, Governing Council, lecturers, and students of YABATECH for this award. I will cherish it and not take it for granted. It will further motivate me to continue supporting educational development through school construction, scholarships, and bursaries, initiatives I have been known for over the years.”

He assured the institution of continued legislative backing as it transitions from a College of Technology to a full-fledged University of Technology.

The award presentation was later performed by Hon. Oyeleye to Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola Yayi, in the presence of Chief (Mrs.) Temitope Adeola, the senator’s wife, alongside supporters and well-wishers.
