Wunmi, the wife of the renowned Nigerian hip-hop artiste known as Mohbad, whose real name is Ilerioluwa Oladimeji, has revealed that her husband lived in a constant state of fear until his death.
Her words, “He struggled until the very end, enduring numerous pains and threats, perpetually haunted by fear. He was consistently embroiled in conflicts wherever he went, and he rarely found happiness, even for a single day.
“He was unjustly labeled as a junkie or someone with mental issues to shape public perception. He has now passed away, and if winning was the goal, then you’ve achieved it. At just 24 years old, you’ve made me a widow”, she lamented.
Wunmi stated further, “Nothing brought him joy anymore. Even after meeting his own child, his worries deepened. He had transformed into a family man, deeply concerned for our safety. I was supposed to collect our baby’s passport yesterday to begin our travel preparations.
“He would often say to me, ‘Wunmi, please go for the sake of our child. I don’t want these people to harm you and our baby. It would devastate me. You go, and I’ll confront them myself.'”
In his final musical performance, Mohbad conveyed a poignant message: “You don’t have to harm me for your success. You don’t need to harm another to create music.”
He continued, “Show organizers hesitated to book me for performances due to my decision to leave a record label…”
Many observers within the industry speculated that Mohbad may have been aware of individuals with harmful intentions towards him.
