Why Tribunal Sacked Adeleke, Declares Oyetola Winner Of Osun Guber Election

...Orders INEC To Withdraw Certificate Of Return Given To Adeleke

OSOGBO – The Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Osogbo, Osun State has declared Adegboyega Oyetola of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as winner of the Saturday, July 16, 2021 gubernatorial election held in the state.

In the ruling delivered on Friday, January 27, 2023, the Tribunal ruled in favour of Oyetola having established cases of over voting in some of the polling units in the election.

The Tribunal chaired by Justice Tertese Kume held that indeed there was over voting in 749 polling units during the election.

Having deducted the unlawful votes from the lawful votes, The Tribunal ruled that Oyetola indeed has the majority of the lawful votes cast during the election.

The Tribunal thus, ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to withdraw the Certificate of Return issued to Ademola Adeleke of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and handed it over to Oyetola.

It would be recalled that Oyetola, of the All Progressives Congress, had dragged Adeleke before the Tribunal over the July 16, 2022 election.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had declared Adeleke of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as the winner of the poll.

The Tribunal had after taking the written address of the parties in the suit said it would inform them of a date for the judgment.

The case was filed by Oyetola and the APC against Adeleke, PDP and INEC.
