IBADAN, OYO STATE, NIGERIA – Merely six months following his suspension as Mogaji by the Olubadan Advisory Council, Chief Wale Oladoja, the Mogaji Akinsola of Opopo Labiran family compound in Ibadan, has ultimately lost his title.
His family compound was directed to promptly nominate another individual to fill his former position.
This decision was the outcome of an emergency meeting of the Olubadan Advisory Council presided over by the Olubadan, Oba Sen. Lekan Balogun, Alli Okunmade II, at his Alarere residence.
Present at the meeting were representatives from the Association of Mogajis of Ibadanland, led by its President-General, Chief Asimiyu Adepoju Ariori, and the Assistant Secretary-General of the Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes (CCII), Suleiman Iyanda Raufu, standing in for Chief Barrister Niyi Ajewole, the President-General of the Council.
In a press statement released in Ibadan after the meeting by the Personal Assistant (Media) to the Olubadan, Oladele Ogunsola, Oladoja was deposed due to recent media outbursts deemed disrespectful to the Olubadan stool and the traditional institution of Ibadanland.
Media reports attributed to the deposed Mogaji were described as divisive, disparaging, insulting, and unbecoming of a leader, who is expected to be urbane and cautious in deeds and actions.
The council noted that Oladoja’s conduct since his suspension six months ago showed no sense of remorse.
It’s worth recalling that the same Olubadan Advisory Council suspended Oladoja over the inhumane execution of a supposed court judgment on a land matter, during which he evicted residents of Akinsola village in Akinyele Local Government area of the state, an act described as untoward and a breach of peace.
During Saturday, March 9, 2024 meeting, the council highlighted that the previous suspension didn’t last long due to perceived genuine remorse and the peaceful disposition of His Imperial Majesty.
However, recent outbursts of the deposed Mogaji indicated a lack of respect for constituted authority, and the council deemed it necessary to take decisive action.
To underline the point, the Akinsola Family, which originally produced him, was asked to nominate another person if they still wished to have a substantive Mogaji.
Oladoja was invited to the meeting but failed to attend, citing his mother’s recent death as the reason.
However, members dismissed this as an attempt to avoid interrogation, noting that his active presence on social media contradicted his claim of mourning.
They regarded his refusal to honour the invitation as adding insult to injury.
