Why I Sacked Chief of Defence Staff,  Other Service Chiefs – President Tinubu Explains

ABUJA, NIGERIA – FRIDAY, OCTOBER 24, 2025: President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has expressed deep appreciation to the outgoing Service Chiefs for their selfless service and unwavering commitment to national security, while announcing a major shake-up in the leadership of the Nigerian Armed Forces.

In a statement shared via his 𝕏 (formerly Twitter) account, President Tinubu explained that the decision to appoint new Service Chiefs was part of his administration’s strategic efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s security architecture and enhance the efficiency of the Armed Forces.

“I have approved changes in the hierarchy of our Armed Forces to further strengthen Nigeria’s national security architecture,” the President stated.

The President confirmed the appointment of General Olufemi Oluyede as the new Chief of Defence Staff, Major-General W. Shaibu as Chief of Army Staff, Air Vice Marshal S.K. Aneke as Chief of Air Staff, and Rear Admiral I. Abbas as the new Chief of Naval Staff.

He also affirmed that Major-General E.A.P. Undiendeye would continue in his role as Chief of Defence Intelligence.

While expressing gratitude to General Christopher Musa and the outgoing Service Chiefs for their years of distinguished service, President Tinubu urged the newly appointed officers to demonstrate professionalism, vigilance, and unity in the discharge of their duties.

“I thank General Christopher Musa and the outgoing Service Chiefs for their selfless service and dedicated leadership, and I charge the new Service Chiefs to deepen professionalism, vigilance, and unity within our Armed Forces as they serve our nation with honour”, he said.

President Tinubu reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to ensuring a safer and more secure Nigeria, emphasizing that the leadership reshuffle reflects his resolve to equip the Armed Forces for greater effectiveness in tackling emerging security challenges across the country.
