Nigerian comedy sensation, Bright Okpocha, widely recognized as Basketmouth, has taken significant steps towards ending a long-standing feud with his fellow comedian, Ayodeji Richard Makun, popularly known as AY.
The feud between Basketmouth and AY, which had lasted for 17 years, was primarily rooted in issues of loyalty, as Basketmouth had previously disclosed.
However, in a recent turn of events, Basketmouth has extended a heartfelt apology to AY and the entire entertainment industry for any grievances he may have caused.
In a heartfelt Instagram post, Basketmouth expressed his sincere remorse, saying, “Now to all the people in the industry and beyond that I have offended, I’m saying this to you right now from the bottom of my heart; I’m genuinely sorry, please forgive me.”
He acknowledged accusations of negatively affecting others’ careers and, without admitting or denying these claims, implored, “But regardless, please forgive me from the bottom of my heart.”
Basketmouth made a specific appeal to AY, saying, “Now to my guy AY, I don’t know if my apology is still valid right now but if it is, please forgive me for whatever I have done or said in the past that affected you in any way; forgive me. And I want you to know that I have forgiven you for whatever you have done or said knowingly or unknowingly. It’s in the past, and I just want us to live in peace and harmony.”
With humour, Basketmouth also acknowledged the cynics who might view his apology as a publicity stunt for an upcoming show, saying, “Now for the people who are assuming that this apology video is because I have a show coming up on the 26th of November, I would like to say you are absolutely correct. I’m trying to sell tickets for my show, but I’m also genuinely sorry for everything that I have done.”
This reconciliation marks a significant moment in the entertainment industry, where two prominent comedians have chosen to set aside their differences and move forward positively.
