IJEBU-ODE, OGUN STATE, NIGERIA – Otunba Wasiu Jayeola Taiwo, Chairman and CEO of Wessy Group, will receive an Honorary Doctor of Science (D.Sc. Honoris Causa) in Clothing and Textiles from Tai Solarin University of Education (TASUED) during its 16th Convocation Ceremony on Thursday, November 28, 2024.
Fondly called Wessy Creation, TASUED described him as a celebrated entrepreneur, philanthropist, and community icon, stating: “Otunba Jayeola Wasiu is one of the pioneers in the textile and fashion industry. His world-class designs and leadership exemplify dedication to excellence.”
This prestigious award recognizes Otunba Taiwo’s remarkable contributions to Nigeria’s fashion industry, his pioneering role in tailoring and textiles, and his dedication to empowering young talents through advanced training.
His company, Wessy Creations, based in Abeokuta, Ogun State, is renowned for its cutting-edge tailoring technologies and outstanding designs, earning international acclaim.
Otunba Taiwo is also the proprietor of Wessy College of Arts and Technology and serves as the National President of the Tailors Association of Nigeria (TAN).
Beyond fashion, he oversees several enterprises, including Continental Suites & Hotels and Chicken Continental, reflecting his entrepreneurial versatility.
Otunba Taiwo began his tailoring journey at the age of 12, learning the craft under his father, the late Pa Tiamiyu Taiwo, in Ilaro-Yewa, Ogun State.
From these humble beginnings, he rose to become an authority in the industry, blending innovation with tradition.
