ABEOKUTA, OGUN STATE, NIGERIA – A delegation from the Ogun State Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (OGUNCCIMA) has recently returned from Giessen, Germany, where they acquired valuable insights into the country’s esteemed Vocational Education and Training (VET) system.
The primary goal of the trip was to explore potential collaborations and integrate best practices into Nigeria’s vocational training framework.
During their visit, the delegation toured various vocational institutions, including specialized training centers focused on engineering, IT, healthcare, and manufacturing.
In addition to institutional visits, the delegation engaged with representatives from local industries to learn about the collaboration between German companies and vocational schools in providing students with practical experience.
They also participated in discussions with German educators and policymakers to understand strategies for keeping vocational training aligned with evolving workforce needs.
The trip enriched the delegation’s understanding of the German education system and its robust approach to vocational training. Highlights included institutional visits, industry integration, workforce development strategies, and cultural exchanges.
The objectives of the trip were threefold: to gain insights into Germany’s dual education system, to foster partnerships with vocational institutions, government agencies, and industry stakeholders, and to explore advanced training facilities and technologies.
Armed with these insights, OGUNCCIMA is now well-positioned to implement best practices that will enhance Nigeria’s vocational training landscape, ultimately contributing to social cohesion and economic growth.
