LAGOS, NIGERIA – Vice President Kashim Shettima led the nation in mourning the untimely passing of former Group Chief Executive Officer of Access Holdings Plc, Chief Herbert Wigwe, and his family in a tragic helicopter crash in the United States of America.
In a poignant tribute, Senator Shettima hailed the late Wigwe as a pioneer in the Nigerian banking sector, lauding his visionary leadership and steadfast commitment to community service.
Addressing a gathering of mourners at the funeral service held in Lagos, the Vice President reflected on Wigwe’s extraordinary achievements, noting that he blossomed long before his peers.
“Herbert’s departure leaves us in the cold of winter, just as the promise of spring was beginning to emerge. His journey was marked by unique seasons, where he bloomed ahead of his contemporaries,” remarked Senator Shettima.
Titled: “Herbert Wigwe: The Flower That Bloomed Before Spring,” the Vice President’s speech celebrated Wigwe’s early successes, his vision for establishing an academic institution of international renown, and his commitment to leaving a lasting impact.
“While Herbert may have blossomed early in life, his story was not one of premature fading. He conquered every challenge before him,” Senator Shettima emphasized.
Expressing sorrow for the loss of Wigwe’s wife, son, and others, the Vice President described it as a shared grief felt across the nation and beyond, symbolizing the fading fragrance of a garden that enriched countless lives.
Nevertheless, Senator Shettima urged Nigerians to celebrate the remarkable lives led by the deceased, emphasizing that their legacy would endure as an inspiration to all striving for greatness.
“Their achievements were not solitary triumphs but reflections of the collective strength they instilled in others. Though their earthly journey may have ended, their spirits remain etched in our hearts. May Herbert’s legacy continue to inspire those pursuing excellence.”
