UK Secretary Of State, Kemi Badenoch, Pledges Collaboration With Nigeria To Facilitate Trade

LAGOS – The United Kingdom’s Secretary of State for Business and Trade, Rt. Hon. Kemi Badenoch, has expressed eagerness for British businesses to invest in Nigeria, particularly in Lagos.

Badenoch stated this during a courtesy visit to Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babatunde Sanwo-Olu, on Wednesday, February 14, 2024 at Lagos House, Marina.

Badenoch affirmed the UK’s commitment to collaborating with Nigeria to overcome trade barriers and ensure smooth business operations between the two nations.

Badenoch emphasized the importance of bilateral trade and proposed measures to address challenges such as foreign exchange issues, stating, “We want to make sure that we have two-way trade… We want to reduce barriers to trade and ensure seamless business transactions between our countries.”

Governor Sanwo-Olu, in his response, encouraged foreign investors, especially those from the UK, to view Lagos as a prime investment destination.

He reiterated his administration’s dedication to fostering a conducive business environment to attract investors.

Sanwo-Olu underscored the significance of enhancing trading activities to bolster Nigeria’s economy, advocating for increased domestic production and consumption to reduce reliance on foreign currency.

He highlighted Lagos as a pivotal hub for investment within West Africa and beyond, inviting UK businesses to explore the abundant opportunities available in the state.
