LAGOS, NIGERIA – The Senator representing Ogun West Senatorial District, Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola (Yayi), has called on journalists and media professionals in Ogun State and across Nigeria to ensure that their reportage serves the noble purpose of disseminating balanced information that fosters peace, unity, and national development.

Speaking on the critical influence of the media in shaping public perception, Senator Adeola cautioned against the spread of misinformation and sensationalism.

He emphasized that while negative news often spreads rapidly, the damage it causes is usually difficult to reverse.

The Aare Gbobaniyi of Ilaro. therefore urged members of the press to uphold the integrity of their profession by steering clear of fake news and reports capable of undermining social harmony.

Senator Adeola made these remarks while receiving members of the League of Yewa-Awori Media Practitioners (LOYAMP), led by Elhadj (Otunba) Abu-Satar Idowu Hamed, the Otun Baaroyin of Ilaro-Yewa and Publisher/Editor-in-Chief of StarTrend Int’l Magazine and Online Platform, during a courtesy visit.

The group used the occasion to express their solidarity and pledge support for initiatives aimed at enhancing the socio-economic development of Ogun State and Nigeria at large.

The distinguished Senator, who also holds the title of Aremo of Yewaland, reminded journalists of their vital role as the eyes and ears of the people.

He stressed that the media must remain committed to publishing factual, objective, and balanced stories – whether in print or online – especially in an era where the world has become a global village.

Senator Adeola further assured the delegation of his continuous and dedicated representation, reaffirming his commitment to the progress and prosperity of the people of Ogun West and the entire Ogun State.

He expressed optimism that better days lie ahead for the Gateway State through collective efforts anchored on truth and responsible journalism.

Earlier, in his opening remarks, Otunba Abu-Satar Hamed commended Senator Adeola for his outstanding, people-oriented achievements and the dividends of democracy being delivered – not only to his constituents but also across Ogun State.

The veteran journalist and community leader stated that Senator Adeola’s impressive record at the National Assembly within just over two years clearly shows that, if given the opportunity (Insha Allah) for higher leadership within the state, Ogun will indeed become a place of pride among the comity of states in Nigeria.

He explained that the League of Yewa-Awori Media Practitioners (LOYAMP) is a vibrant coalition of seasoned journalists, editors, and publishers who have distinguished themselves in the media profession over the years.

“Formed as a melting pot of great ideas, LOYAMP is dedicated to promoting the collective interests of Yewa-Awori sons and daughters both at home and in the diaspora.

“Beyond regional advocacy, the group also strives to advance the development of Ogun State and contribute meaningfully to the progress of Nigeria as a whole”, he said.

Otunba Hamed, who serves as the National Coordinator of the group, emphasized that LOYAMP stands firmly against the use of foul language, divisive content, or any publication capable of causing disunity or leading to legal disputes in their respective media platforms.

“At its core,” he added, “LOYAMP is committed to uplifting Yewa-Awori personalities and supporting their aspirations toward positions of influence and leadership within Ogun State and beyond.

He said, “Together, we can achieve more – for the good of all!” #LOYAMP
