Senator Jimoh Ibrahim Advocates Public Execution For Corrupt Politicians, Calls For Accountability In Borrowed Funds

FCT, ABUJA, NIGERIA – Senator Jimoh Ibrahim, representing Ondo South, has proposed public execution as a deterrent for politicians who embezzle public funds.

The senator made this suggestion while addressing public concerns surrounding President Bola Tinubu’s recent $2.2 billion external loan request.

Tinubu had formally written to the National Assembly seeking approval for the loan on Tuesday, which sparked widespread criticism over fears of misuse.

During an interview on Channels TV Politics Today, Senator Ibrahim stressed the need for stringent measures to prevent misappropriation.

Responding to the interviewer’s concerns about trust deficits and the history of diverted public funds, he stated, “If you list 50 items to which you want to borrow $100 billion and bring it to the National Assembly, we should pass a law that anyone who spends outside the listed items shall face public execution. Then people will run away from stealing.”

The senator’s remarks reflect growing frustrations among Nigerians over financial mismanagement and the impoverishment caused by corrupt practices.

His extreme suggestion, however, has sparked debates on the balance between enforcing accountability and upholding human rights.
