ABUJA, NIGERIA – Senator Solomon Adeola (APC, Ogun West), Chairman of the Senate Committee on Appropriations, has expressed deep sadness over the demise of Chief (Mrs.) Lucia Onabowale Onabanjo, wife of a former Governor of Ogun State, the late Chief Victor Olabisi Onabanjo.
Mama Onabanjo died on Monday, January 11, 2026, at the remarkable age of 101.
In a condolence message to the Onabanjo family, e-signed and made available to the media by his Media Adviser, Chief Kayode Odunaro, Senator Adeola described the late matriarch as a woman who lived a fulfilled and impactful life, stressing that her longevity and peaceful passage are worthy of celebration for the grace and goodness of God.
“Mama Onabanjo was a model of a virtuous woman and a pioneering First Lady in the democratic history of Ogun State. She was a dutiful and responsible mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, who kept the family of her late husband united and flourishing over the years”, the senator said.
Yayi noted that Mama Onabanjo would be greatly missed by her immediate family and all beneficiaries of her kindness and generosity.
While praying for the peaceful repose of her gentle soul, Senator Adeola Yayi also prayed that God grant the Onabanjo family the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.
