ZAMFARA STATE, NIGERIA – A member of the House of Representatives and Chairman of the House Committee on Sports, Hon. Kabiru Mai Palace, has undertaken the renovation of 80 cemeteries across the Gusau/Tsafe Federal Constituency in Zamfara State, describing the effort as part of his second-term constituency projects.
Speaking during the formal commissioning of the projects on Tuesday, August 5, 2025, Mai Palace said the cemetery upgrades were part of events marking his second anniversary in office, stressing the spiritual and cultural significance of maintaining dignified final resting places.
“As human beings, we know one day, all of us are going to be buried here. Therefore, we must ensure we do good to improve the conditions of our last home”, he said.
He added that maintaining cemeteries aligns with Islamic teachings, which emphasize the respect and upkeep of burial sites to prevent societal and spiritual calamities.
In addition to the renovations, the lawmaker pledged to employ cemetery guards, provide tools, and pay allowances to workers who maintain the grounds.
He also used the opportunity to distribute tricycles and motorcycles to select constituents as part of an empowerment drive.
However, Mai Palace’s project announcement comes amid renewed scrutiny of the “constituency project” model, a controversial aspect of Nigeria’s budgeting system long criticized for being a conduit for corruption and opaque spending.
