IGBESSA, ADO-ODO/OTA LOCAL GOVERNMENT, OGUN STATE, NIGERIA – Nigeria’s renowned businessman and philanthropist, Alhaji Ibraheem Dende Egungbohun, has urged the government at all levels to enhance vocational and technical education to better equip the youth for global industrial challenges.
Speaking after being conferred with the Fellowship Award by the Ogun State Institute of Technology (OGITECH), Igbesa, Egungbohun – represented by his wife, Mrs. Judith Omolara Egungbohun – emphasized the need to make technical education more appealing to young Nigerians.
The Deputy Governor of Ogun State, Alhaja (Engr) Noimot Oloyede-Salako, praised Alhaji Ibraheem Egungbogun for his unwavering support towards the growth of educational institutions, including others across the country.
Alhaja (Engr) Noimot Oloyede-Salako emphasized that Ibraheem Egungbogun has consistently championed the cause of underprivileged youths and marginalized members of society, making him truly deserving of recognition for his philanthropic efforts.
The Rector of the institution Dr. Biodun Oluseye referred to Alhaji Ibraheem Egungbogun as a philanthropist with a unique and exceptional approach.
He further highlighted that the prominent business mogul is not only humble but also has a generous and compassionate nature, always thinking of the well-being of others.
Dr. Oluseye expressed gratitude to IBD and other contributors for their continued commitment to the advancement of the institution.
Highlighting the global shift towards skill-based education, Egungbohun stressed that prioritizing technical training would empower youths to become self-reliant entrepreneurs rather than depend on white-collar jobs.
“It is only through vocational and technical education that the youth can gain entrepreneurial knowledge to stand and work on their own. Government should make it more enticing; this is the way forward to end youthful restlessness”, he stated.
The Oluomo of Yewaland lauded the Ogun State government for prioritizing education, particularly the revitalization of technical colleges through rehabilitation and infrastructure upgrades.
He further advocated for the establishment of skill acquisition centers, ensuring graduates acquire hands-on vocational skills in addition to their academic qualifications.
Recognizing the financial constraints in the education sector, Egungbohun called on wealthy individuals to adopt schools and contribute meaningfully to their development.
He also urged corporate organizations to support Polytechnics, particularly in funding initiatives like the mass production of OGITECH’s newly unveiled Electric Vehicle – a project that could contribute to Nigeria’s growing economy.
Expressing gratitude for the OGITECH Fellowship Award, Egungbohun reaffirmed his dedication to uplifting the less-privileged and supporting educational growth in the country.
“Government alone cannot fund education. It is a collective responsibility, and those who have the means must step in to make a lasting impact”, he concluded.
