BY ABU-SATAR HAMED

IPERU-REMO, IKENNE LG, OGUN STATE, NIGERIA – Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has credited the All Progressives Congress (APC)’s success in the recent Remo Federal Constituency by-election to his administration’s commitment to improving lives and driving the state’s transformation through robust infrastructural development.

Speaking at a press conference in Iperu-Remo on Sunday, August 17, 2025, Governor Abiodun celebrated the victory of the APC candidate, Hon. Adesola Elegbeji, who was officially declared the winner by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The governor described the outcome as a clear reflection of the people’s endorsement of his administration’s performance.

According to him, the constituents of Remo Federal Constituency used the ballot to affirm their support for good governance, despite what he described as desperate efforts by certain elements to sway the electorate through intimidation and illicit inducements.

“The people have spoken decisively. Their votes represent a referendum on the visible progress and purposeful leadership we have delivered”, Abiodun said.

He said the election has turned out to be a true testament to the popularity of his administration and the party across the country, just as it has validated the success of President Bola Tinubu’s revolution in the last 24 months in office.

Abiodun said, “Our administration has been deliberate and intentional in our quest to improve the lives of people and transform our towns and cities through aggressive and massive infrastructural development across the state.

“It (the victory) also underscores our achievements in Ogun State.

“I have consistently stated that this administration will remain unstoppable in its pursuit of rapid development and human capital advancement, ensuring that no part of our dear state is developed at the expense of another.”

The victory, Governor Abiodun noted, coincided with the approval by the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) for the Gateway International Airport to commence commercial flight operations.

“Without a doubt, this is a monumental achievement that will leave a lasting imprint on the history of our state. Ogun State is now connected to the rest of the world”, he added.

While congratulating Mrs. Adesola Elegbeji on her well-deserved victory, the state helmsman urged her to carry the mandate with humility and diligence, as the victory is not an end in itself, and efforts should be geared toward sustaining the vision of the renewed hope agenda of President Tinubu.

“It is a journey of service, of trust, and tangible development for our people. We must remain disciplined, focused, and united. Our collective strength is the foundation upon which even greater victories will be won.

“This is an indication of what the 2027 presidential, governorship, national, and state assembly elections will look like”, the governor said.

He appreciated all stakeholders, including party faithful, traditional and religious leaders, INEC officials, security agencies, associations, and all those who played one role or another in ensuring a hitch-free election.

He also commended the people of Remo Federal Constituency for turning out en masse to vote for the ruling party, assuring them that they would not be disappointed, as the new representative would work for their good.

In her remarks, the new House of Representatives member, Hon. Adesola Elegbeji, appreciated the people for the confidence reposed in her, assuring them that their interests would be put on the front burner at the national level.

She said women, youth development and empowerment, and rural integration would be her priorities, just as efforts would be made to secure constituency projects that would have a direct impact on the people in the three local government areas that make up the constituency.
