ABEOKUTA, OGUN STATE, NIGERIA – The Organized Labour in Ogun State has commended Governor Dapo Abiodun for exhibiting a high level of sensitivity, as he released 10 months of outstanding voluntary savings of workers in the State.

The commendation, contained in a letter signed by the Chairmen of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Hameed Ademola-Benco, the Trade Union Congress (TUC), Comrade Akeem Lasisi, and the Joint National Public Service Negotiating Council (JNC), Comrade Isa Olude, noted that the release came at a time when every citizen is facing a daunting economic challenge in light of strategic policy reforms to return the nation to a path of greatness.

The labour leaders expressed profound gratitude to the Governor for the gesture, saying it has further reinforced the credibility of the government and has also enhanced the confidence that workers in the State have in the State Government.

The unions added that the payment will go a long way in affirming to the teeming members of the organized labour that their leaders are enjoying a mutual and trustworthy relationship with the State Government.

“We express our unreserved gratitude to Your Excellency for several reasons. Obviously, the State Government is the greatest beneficiary of the accolades that greeted the payment.

“It is better to witness the resounding jubilation that filled the air of various offices, accompanied by praise and prayers for the auspicious payment,” the labour leaders said.

They also appreciated the government for the continuous release of outstanding gratuities to retirees, adding that these releases have combined to ameliorate, in many ways, the rising discontent of a large swath of citizens, especially workers.

The labour leaders acknowledged the proactive steps taken by the government regarding workers’ welfare, noting that the gesture will continue to motivate the entire workforce for greater efficiency.
