Reasons Behind Peseiro’s Exit As Super Eagles Manager

ABUJA, NIGERIA – Jose Peseiro has officially stepped down as the Manager and coach of the Super Eagles of Nigeria, as his contract concluded after the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

In a series of tweets on Friday, Mrch 1, 2024 from his official account, the Portuguese tactician expressed pride and gratitude for the opportunity to coach the Super Eagles, acknowledging 22 months of dedication, sacrifice, and immense enthusiasm.

Peseiro, along with his coaching staff, bid farewell to the team, expressing appreciation for the players, the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF), and the entire support staff.

He reassured them of continued support despite his departure, saying, “but we will always be there for you.”

“Yesterday, we concluded our contract with the NFF. It was a pride and honor to coach the Super Eagles. It has been 22 months of immense dedication, sacrifice, emotion, and enormous enthusiasm. We feel a sense of fulfillment.

“Guys, we are thankful; it has been a privilege to be part of this family. We will miss you, but we will always be there for you, no matter where you are. A big hug to all of you.”

In another development, the Algeria Football Federation has shown interest in hiring Peseiro following his successful stint with Nigeria, leading them to the AFCON final.

The Algerian president of the football federation, Walid Sadi, is reportedly impressed with Peseiro’s credentials and is considering him for the national team job, according to Algerian publication DZ Foot.
