ABEOKUTA – Principals in Ogun State have been described as partners in progress with the government, in it’s bid towards improving the standard of quality education in Secondary Schools across the State .
The Chairman of Ogun State Teaching Service Commission, Evangelist Olalekan Ifede said this recently, during the Maiden Edition of Annual Egba Division Secondary Schools Essay Writing, Debate and Quiz Competition with the Presentation of Awards, held at Lisabi Grammar School, Idi-aba, Abeokuta.
Evangelist Ifede reiterated that the initiative was another wake-up call that should be emphasized at this present time when an average individual does not know the importance of motivation and reinforcements towards effective teaching and learning.
“The principalship position in this present dispensation goes beyond effective leadership, but must be partners in progress with the Government to improve the standard and quality of education in our secondary Schools, which is one of the major cardinal points of the Prince Dapo Abiodun-led administration”, he said.
Speaking, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Primary and Secondary Education, who also received an Award of Honour, Mrs. Ronke Soyombo advised participants to carefully realize and pursue their goals so as to achieve the best, commending the organisers for putting such a laudable initiative in place.
Earlier in her welcome address, the Principal General of Egba Block who was also the host, Alhaja Sekinat Ogunwoolu stated that the idea behind the event was to inculcate and foster reading culture, to train students on leadership ability in order to face challenges.
Alhaja Ogunwoolu also said that the competition would engender heavy academic rivalry that would enhance reading, spelling, vocabularies and public speaking abilities among students.
Speaking, the President, All Nigeria Confederation of Principals of Secondary School, (ANCOPSS), Dr. Olubunmi Womiloju while describing the programme as an initiative in the right direction, commended the office of the Principal Generals for focusing on attainment of higher standards in schools. She therefore enjoined the participants to be a positive influence to other students.
The winner of the Quiz Competition, Junior Category, Excel Olajubu from Olohunda Secondary school , Ewekoro Zone, appreciated the present administration for the giant stride in the education sector, urging other students to be hard working in order to attain academic excellence.
