Prince Okes Masima Baba 4ever AfroPop Artiste: Creator Of Afrofusion and Advocate For Men’s Health

BY ABU-SATAR HAMED

Can you introduce yourself and tell us about your work?

My name is Prince Okes Masima, and I’m a professional and multi-talented musician with a passion for creating unique sounds. I’m the creator of a genre called Afrofusion, which is my way of blending traditional Afrobeat with other musical influences. I’ve been active in the music scene for over three decades, performing live on stages around the world.

What inspired Afrofusion, and how has it been received?

Afrofusion is my own style of Afrobeat, a genre that blends elements from different musical styles. I introduced it in Europe, and it’s been widely accepted there, which has been really rewarding. I believe it has resonated with people because it’s fresh and connects different cultures through music.

Tell us about your latest project, “Bedroom Bulldozer.” What inspired it?

The idea for “Bedroom Bulldozer” came from hearing men express concerns about their sexual health and a desire to boost their confidence and well-being.

So, the project focuses on men’s health, aiming to address issues like low sperm count and libido. The title reflects strength and energy, and the audience is primarily men looking to improve their vitality.

Are you marketing a specific product through “Bedroom Bulldozer”?

Yes, through the “Bedroom Bulldozer” video, I’m also promoting a product for men, particularly those who want to address low sperm count or other fertility concerns, including women looking for children. It’s an effort to help men feel empowered and confident.

Despite your long career, you haven’t released an album yet. Any plans to change that?

Absolutely! I’m currently working on my debut album, which I plan to release in the next few months. It’s been a long time coming, and I’m excited to share my work with everyone.

You’ve been less visible at concerts recently, any reason for that?

I’ve still been performing, both in Nigeria and abroad, although perhaps not as visibly. My focus has shifted a bit to projects that require a different type of outreach, but live performance will always be a big part of what I do.

How do you see the current state of Afrobeat and hip-hop in Nigeria?

Afrobeat, especially Afrofusion, is thriving both domestically and internationally. There’s so much talent in Nigeria, and the genre keeps evolving. I’m excited to continue contributing to its growth and global reach.

What advice would you give to Nigerian youth and their parents?

I would encourage Nigerian youth to stay focused, believe in themselves, and never give up on their dreams. With hard work and self-belief, they can achieve great things.

Can you share a bit about your journey in music?

My journey began in 1984 in Lagos, and by 1993, I had created Afrofusion. In 2004, I launched the “Okes Masima and the Afrofusion Band” in Gothenburg, Sweden, and rebranded myself as Baba4ever. Now, I’m preparing to release my first album, so stay tuned – it’s coming soon!
