Primate Ayodele Warns Iyabo Obasanjo Against ‘Unrealistic’ Governorship Bid

LAGOS, NIGERIA – The leader of INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church, Primate Elijah Ayodele, has advised former Senator Iyabo Obasanjo to reconsider spending money on what he described as an unrealistic political ambition.

The cleric made the remarks while commenting on political developments ahead of future elections in a recent video shared on Facebook, where he criticized the reported governorship aspiration of the former lawmaker.

According to him, the former senator, who is also a professor, may find it difficult to gather the level of political support required to secure victory in a governorship contest.

In his words: “Iyabo Obasanjo, why can’t you keep your money instead of wasting the money for governorship?”

The outspoken cleric maintained that pursuing such an ambition could amount to political gambling rather than a realistic pathway to power.

He argued that the prevailing political atmosphere and voter dynamics might not favour Senator Obasanjo’s candidacy.

“Maybe you are just gambling. You are gambling. It’s a waste”, he stated.

Primate Ayodele further questioned whether the former senator could even command strong support within her immediate political base, noting that winning a statewide election would be far more challenging.

“You can’t even win your ward, talk less of winning the whole state for governor”, he added.

It would be recalled that the senator who is also a Professor Iyabo Obasanjo, daughter of former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo, previously served as senator representing Ogun Central Senatorial District in the National Assembly.
