BY ABU-SATAR HAMED (reporting from Manchester, UK)
MANCHESTER, UNITED KINGDOM – Imam Mufodiu Olaseni Junaid, Chief Imam of Nasirulahi Walifathu Islamic Centre in Greater Manchester, United Kingdom, has reminded Muslims that prayer alone is not sufficient to secure their place in Aljanat (Paradise).
The respected Islamic scholar made this assertion during his Jumat Sermon on Friday, December 20, 2024.
In his sermon, Imam Junaid underscored the importance of compassion and charity, emphasizing that both the Qur’an and Hadith advocate for love and kindness towards all human beings, irrespective of their religion, tribe or colour.
“Both the Holy Qur’an and Hadith emphasize that we must love our fellow human beings,” he stated.
The Imam elaborated further on the spiritual value of generosity, explaining that wealth and resources are divine gifts meant to serve others.
“We’re taught to be kind to fellow human beings and assist them with our God-given wealth whenever the need arises.
“By practicing these principles, we can not only experience God’s mercy but also enjoy His grace here on earth”, he said.
Imam Junaid urged the congregation to actively participate in the development and propagation of Islam.
He highlighted the responsibility of using personal and collective resources to uplift their communities and strengthen the faith.
Imam Junaid commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his socio-economic reforms. He however advised President Tinubu to address the hardships that these reforms have imposed on the population, urging for measures that would alleviate the burdens on citizens.
The Imam offered prayers for Nigeria, President Tinubu and his team, as well as the Nigerian community in Greater Manchester.
Imam Junaid’s sermon blended spiritual guidance with social responsibility, encouraging Muslims to embody Islamic values in their daily lives and interactions.
His call to action resonated as a reminder of the balance between faith and community service.
