Portable Surrenders To Ogun Police Headquarters Over Allegations Of Assault On Government Officials

… Alleges Portable Political Witch-Hunt

ABEOKUTA, OGUN STATE, NIGERIA – Controversial singer Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, turned himself in at the Ogun State Police Command in Abeokuta on Wednesday, February 19, 2025.

He was invited for questioning over an alleged attack on officials from the Ogun State Town Planning Agency.

Portable was accused of attacking state officials while they were carrying out their duties on his property in the Ilogbo area of Ogun State.

According to the Ogun State Police Spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, the singer arrived at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Eleweran, Abeokuta, at exactly 1:23 pm.

The police however assured the public that due process would be followed in handling the case.

Before surrendering in Ogun State, Portable initially turned himself in at the Lagos State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Yaba.

The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the development, stating that the Ogun State Police Command had been contacted to take custody of the singer.

It will be recalled that the police had declared Portable wanted after an alleged violent confrontation with three officials from the Ogun State Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development, Ota Zonal Office.

The affected officials – TPL Onabanjo Abidemi, TPL Raymond Lateef, and TPL Ridwan Oyero Akinlesi – were reportedly attacked during an enforcement operation at Oke-Osa, Tigbo Ilu Ota, Ogun State.

According to reports, the officials initially encountered Portable’s father at Odogwu Bar, who claimed the singer was unavailable. However, shortly afterward, Portable allegedly arrived with a firearm and, alongside nine thugs, assaulted the unarmed officials.

The officials sustained injuries but managed to escape and report the incident to the Ota Area Command, which later transferred the case to the SCID.

Following the attack, nine of Portable’s associates were arrested, but the singer reportedly fled the scene and remained in hiding.

Despite multiple invitations from the police, he repeatedly refused to appear for questioning and did not provide any legal representation.

Reacting on Instagram, Portable claimed he was being framed because of his association with Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, who represents Ogun West in the National Assembly.

He also alleged that he was undergoing psychiatric treatment, stating that he has a mental health condition and receiving medical care at a psychiatric hospital.

In response, the Ogun State Police Command dismissed Portable’s claims of being a psychiatric patient. The police insisted that the singer must face the investigation.

In a video posted on Tuesday, February 18, 2025, Portable declared, “I am a madman and take medications regularly. You can confirm from Aro Hospital – I have a patient card. I am not a thief; I help people.”

However, police spokesperson Omolola Odutola refuted his claims, stating, “Portable will come and submit himself. He cannot be in the psychiatric hospital in Aro. Everybody knows he is a wanted person. If he is in any facility, the police must be informed. He is a wanted man.”
