Port Harcourt in Shock as Doctor Arrested for Killing Pregnant Woman, Selling Baby, Victim Disappeared After Visiting Clinic

PORT HARCOURT, RIVERS STATE, NIGERIA – Residents of Port Harcourt were left horrified after police confirmed the arrest of a medical doctor accused of killing a 20-year-old pregnant woman and selling her newborn.

The heartbreaking case has sparked outrage and fear, with many questioning how someone entrusted with saving lives could allegedly commit such a cruel act.

According to reports, the young woman was last seen alive after visiting the doctor’s clinic. Days later, investigations revealed that she had been killed, and her baby allegedly sold. Police acted swiftly, arresting the doctor and launching a deeper probe into the incident.

This is not the first time such disturbing reports have emerged from Rivers State and other parts of Nigeria. In 2019, police uncovered baby factories in Abia and Imo States, where young women were held and their babies sold. Similarly, in 2022, a Lagos nurse was exposed for secretly selling a newborn without the mother’s consent.

The case has also fueled broader calls for action, with women’s groups uniting under the slogan “Enough is Enough.”

Their movement was triggered by another recent case in which a teenage girl was repeatedly raped, demanding stiffer penalties for offenders and stricter enforcement of protective laws.

Many Nigerians are now demanding tighter regulation of hospitals, clinics, and health centers to prevent such tragedies.

One resident told reporters: “It is sad that people we trust with our health can turn into monsters. Government must act fast.”

Authorities have assured the public that justice will be served.

The doctor is currently in custody, while investigations continue to determine if others were involved in the crime.

Officials emphasize that the case underscores the urgent need to combat human trafficking, illegal medical practices, and abuse of vulnerable women and children in Nigeria.
