UNOJO UMUMBA NDI-AGU, EZAGU LGA, ENUGU STATE – A young billionaire from Enugu State, Levi O. Obieze, widely known as Ezeani, and nicknamed ‘Ichie Million’ or ‘E dey play, e dey show’, has been apprehended by immigration officials over deeply disturbing allegations of ritual killings.
The gruesome details came to light on Monday, May 26, 2025, after a failed kidnap attempt involving a 13-year-old girl and her father occurred in Unojo Umumba Ndi-Agu, Ezagu Local Government Area.
The father and daughter had gone to gather firewood for garri processing when they encountered Ezeani’s alleged gang.
Pretending to need a tool to fix their motorcycle, the men borrowed a cutlass from the unsuspecting father. They then abducted the young girl, tied her up, dug a shallow grave, and buried her alive under debris.
The girl’s cries for help were miraculously heard. Security personnel responded swiftly and rescued her, which led to the unraveling of a broader ritual operation allegedly spearheaded by Ezeani.
“They captured me, tied me up, bundled me to a corner, dug a hole, then threw me inside and covered it with something. I started shouting and the security intervened,” the young girl recounted.
Though Ezeani was reportedly not present at the crime scene, he was accused of recruiting abductors for ritual killings. Following the botched kidnapping, he fled and was declared wanted by the police.
In an official statement, the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) Public Relations Officer, Akinsola Akinlabi, confirmed that Ezeani was apprehended while attempting to escape the country through a land border in Lagos.
“Acting on credible intelligence, officers of the NIS Lagos State Border Patrol Command apprehended Obieze at the Gbaji checkpoint along the Badagry-Seme Road while he attempted to flee the country on a motorcycle,” she stated.
He was reportedly found with a National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) enrollment slip, confirming his identity. During initial interrogation, the suspect allegedly confessed to the crimes.
In a viral video, two captured aides of Ezeani made damning confessions. One admitted to guarding properties during rituals, while the other claimed to lead abductions.
Outrage intensified when enraged villagers stormed Ezeani’s mansion. They set the building ablaze and discovered decomposing bodies – including that of a heavily pregnant woman -in the soakaway pit, presumed to be victims of the ritual practices.
Ezeani had long been idolized by local youths for his ostentatious lifestyle. His sudden wealth and flamboyant displays of cash at public events earned him admiration and suspicion alike.
He was often seen spraying money at parties, dressed in matching outfits with a group believed to be cult members. In one video, they donned red and white attires decorated with human skeleton motifs, further stirring public suspicion.
Videos of Ezeani and his so-called “club members” spread rapidly on social media, igniting nationwide outrage.
Many Nigerians, especially youths, demanded the arrest of all individuals featured in the videos, citing possible involvement in ritual killings or cult-related activities.
The public outcry prompted high-level visits from local authorities. The Chairman of Ezeagu LGA, Hon. Vita Ndu, Rt. Hon. Chima Obieze of the Enugu State House of Assembly, and the Enugu State Commissioner of Police visited the crime scene.
Acting on directives from the state governor, Ezeani’s house was demolished. His two wives and several accomplices were arrested, though they had already faced mob attacks from enraged villagers.
As of the time of this report, Ezeani is officially in custody. The community remains shaken, fearful, and grief-stricken, with residents demanding swift justice and a comprehensive investigation.
According to the NIS spokesperson, the agency is working in close collaboration with the Nigeria Police Force to ensure the smooth transfer of the suspect for further investigation and legal action.
She reiterated the NIS’s commitment to national security and border protection, emphasizing continued support for law enforcement efforts in combating cross-border crimes.
