Ooni Of Ife Set To Install Dr. (Chief) Sunday Omoniyi Obiyinka As Otun Of The Source

ILE IFE, OSUN STATE, NIGERIA – The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, will officially install renowned socialite and accomplished businessman, Dr. (Chief) Sunday Omoniyi Obiyinka, as one of the prestigious titles in Ile Ife – the Otun of The Source.

The ceremony is expected to attract monarchs, celebrities, business stakeholders, key dignitaries, and other prominent personalities.

According to a letter from the Palace, the honour recognized Chief Obiyinka’s exemplary leadership, Pan-African vision, and unwavering commitment to peace, democracy, and continental unity.

The letter also extolled his life of selfless humanitarian service, which continues to inspire generations across Africa.

Chief Sunday Omoniyi Obiyinka, PhD, mni, is a World Bank–accredited publisher and the Managing Director of Extension Publications Limited.

Born on January 4, 1970, Chief Sunday Omoniyi Obiyinka completed his primary education and attended Onireke Grammar School, Ibadan, where he obtained his WASSCE in 1987.

He later earned a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry/Education from the University of Ilorin in 1992 and completed his National Youth Service in Delta State in 1993.

Driven by a passion for further studies, he obtained a Master’s degree in Publishing and Copyright Studies from the University of Ibadan, where he later earned a doctorate in the same field – becoming the first PhD holder in Publishing and Copyright Studies in Nigeria.

He is also a member of the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies, a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Local Government and Public Administration (FCPA), and a Fellow of the Istanbul Publishing Institute.

Chief Obiyinka’s publishing career began at Onibonoje Publishers and Book Industries (Nig.) Ltd, where he worked from 1996 to 2001.

His interest in the field led to the establishment of Extension Publications Limited in 2004. The company now has offices across Nigeria and within the West African sub-region.

Its publications are known for high quality and have been consistently adopted by major examining bodies, including WAEC and NECO.

A firm believer in academic excellence, Chief Obiyinka endowed a prize for the best graduating Master’s student in Publishing and Copyright Studies at the University of Ibadan.

He also provides an annual scholarship to the best graduating student in the Chemistry Education Department of the University of Ilorin.

As a leading voice in educational publishing, he holds membership in several professional bodies, including the Nigerian Publishers Association (NPA), African Publishers Network (APNET), World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO), and the International Publishers Association (IPA).

He is also an alumnus of New York University, the London School of Economics, and a member of the Institute of Directors (IoD).

In recognition of his cultural and national contributions, the late Imperial Majesty, Oba Saliu Adetunji, Aje Ogungunniso I, conferred on him the chieftaincy title of Jagun Agba-Oye of Ibadanland.

Chief Obiyinka is a regular attendee at prominent book fairs worldwide, including those in London, Frankfurt, Ghana, Cape Town, India, and the United States.

His passion for service and leadership has led him to establish successful ventures in hospitality, oil and gas, pharmaceuticals, printing, construction, and supplies.

Chief Sunday Omoniyi Obiyinka is also active in export and import trade and is widely celebrated for his philanthropy.

He enjoys travelling, table tennis, and networking. He is happily married and blessed with children.

The installation ceremony for Chief Sunday Omoniyi Obiyinka as Otun of “The Source” will take place on January 4, 2026, at the Ancient Ile Oodua Palace, Enuwa Square, Ile Ife. A grand reception will follow at the Ojaja Event Center, Ojaja Arena, Km 4, Ife-Ibadan Expressway, Ile Ife, Osun State. The prescribed dress code is all white.
