ILARO-YEWA, OGUN STATE, NIGERIA – The Olu of Ilaro and Paramount Ruler of Yewaland, Oba (Dr.) Kehinde Gbadewole Olugbenle, has commended the Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro (FPI), for its sustained commitment to grassroots empowerment and community development, describing the collaboration as a “shining example of the Town and Gown spirit.”

According to a release e-signed and shared with StarTrend Int’l Magazine and online platform by ‘Deola Adeyemi, Special Assistant to the Paramount Ruler on Media and Strategic Communications, Oba Olugbenle acknowledged and received detailed reports of the impactful outreach exercise organized by the Polytechnic.

His Majesty reaffirmed his dedication to the growth of local enterprises, agricultural innovation, and capacity building in Ilaro and beyond, commending FPI for aligning academic expertise with community needs.

The programme hosted by the Polytechnic marked the second edition of its Social Responsibility and Community Development Workshop, a flagship initiative aimed at promoting skills acquisition and sustainable economic practices at the grassroots.

This year’s edition focused on the hygienic processing of cassava and its by-products, with particular emphasis on Fufu production, a staple food and major source of livelihood in the Yewa region.

Ahead of the training, the Directorate of Town and Gown of the Polytechnic embarked on field visits to ten Fufu-producing centres across Ilaro and its environs.

The purpose was to assess existing local production methods, identify gaps, and design a community-responsive training model that addressed hygiene, efficiency, and environmental sustainability.

The workshop, held on Tuesday, October 14, 2025, at the Asade Agunloye Pavilion, drew a crowd of over one hundred participants, including local producers, youth groups, women entrepreneurs, and community leaders.

Themed, “Hygienic Processing of Cassava into Fufu and the Economic Utilization of Cassava By-products,” the session provided practical demonstrations and expert-led tutorials on modern, hygienic cassava processing techniques.

Participants also learned about the economic reuse of cassava by-products – an approach designed to reduce waste, promote sustainability, and boost household income among rural producers.

The Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro’s engagement continues to set the standard for effective institution-community partnerships, showcasing how academic institutions can drive real-world transformation through research, training, and social impact initiatives.

Oba Olugbenle’s commendation reinforces the importance of continuous collaboration between educational institutions and host communities to achieve inclusive growth and development across Yewaland.
